Walking, photography, birdwatching, caving, climbing, tea shops!

For walkers, we have everything from smooth, marked nature trails like the one that starts in our village, to the slightly more adventurous Waterfalls Walk in nearby Ingleton, right up to the justly famous and challenging Three Peaks route.

Underground, rivers and waterfalls have over the millenia, carved a 3-D labyrinth of amazing tunnels, shafts and chambers in the limestone, and leave behind beautifully sculptured rock forms and exquisite stalagmites and stalactites.
Trained cavers and potholers come to practise their skills and marvel at the underground world, and for those wishing a more sedate experience, there are two fantastic
show caves nearby: Ingleborough Cave, which is a gentle 40 minute walk from our doorstep along the nature trail, and White Scar Cave near Ingleton, a 5 minute drive away.

...and when you return from your adventure in the evening, a pot of tea
and log fire awaits...

Limestone scenery at Selside. >

The limestone "pavement" here is cut into deep runnels by water erosion. Behind is the north east end of Ingleborough.
Many caves lie beneath this landscape.

Goredale Scar

< Goredale Scar near Malham.

This is a dramatic gorge, with unusual waterfalls covered in "tufa" a rare soft limestone deposit. Beautiful walks include a round trip via nearby Malham cove.

Easegill Kirk, near Casterton.>

This is a lovely unspoilt area of water-worn gullies and chasms in the normally dry riverbed. Watch out after rain! A photographer's paradise!

Here the river has sculpted sensuous shapes over the centuries. Below ground this area guards the longest known cave system in the country, accessible to trained cavers and potholers.

The strata of the limestone is revealed
